I hold an MSc in Applied Mathematics and work where human and machine intelligence meet: by day I lead engineering teams building machine-learning systems; on this site I write about the mathematics underneath — sub-Riemannian geometry, optimal control, elliptic functions — and about machine learning in practice.

Research

The Lab collects my research programs. Each one asks a single question, fixes its hypotheses and the results that would refute them in advance, and publishes the verdict with the code — negative results included. They grew out of joint work with Yu. L. Sachkov on the sub-Riemannian geometry of the group of motions of the plane.

I maintain Elliptic functions for Matlab and Octave, a package for elliptic integrals and Jacobi elliptic and theta functions used by researchers and practitioners across several fields. More open-source work is on GitHub, and the projects page has the details.
